  3. Data Entry simply means that you are going to enter infor-
  4. mation into a record in a data file.  With YOUR VERY OWN
  5. ^040, you are able to have records which contain
  6. the data which you have personalized with your own names
  7. for people, places, and things.
  8. .h2 Choosing a Record to Use for Data Entry
  9. You may use any record within your file for any data which
  10. you want to save.  Records do not have to be in a counting
  11. sequence (1,2,3,etc.), but may be chosen by you randomly,
  12. if you want.

  14. If you know which record you want to use, you can type that
  15. record number when asked.  If you do not know what record
  16. to use (you've forgotten the last one), you only have to
  17. type a question-mark (?), and the next available record
  18. will be located for you.

  20. You should know that if you have not yet created the file
  21. of records, you will get a message telling you that the
  22. file does not yet exist, and that you must select Function
  23. #1 (to create 100 records) before you can enter data.

  25. After deciding which record that you will use, you will see
  26. messages on lines 23 and 24, telling you what is expected.
  27. Those messages also contain information about the way that
  28. the information should look, if something special is
  29. expected.

  45. you will be asked for.

  47. This is the same number which you chose (either by stating
  48. it, or by typing a question-mark), only this time it doesn't
  49. have a minus-sign in front of it, which it would have if you
  50. had typed a question-mark.
  51. .h3 Dates
  52. You should know that 11 positions have been reserved for
  53. each date.  You may enter dates in any way that you desire,
  54. or you may just enter ~t~ if you want today's date.  If you
  55. do enter a date, the preferred way is to make it look like:

  59. You can now see why it is important to have entered the
  60. right date during start-up, since that date is used when you
  61. ask for ~t~ (for today's date).  If you didn't give the right
  62. date when you did a start-up, and then used ~t~ (for today),

  68. .h2 Choosing from the Multiple-choices
  69. You may type any number between 1 and 256 when selecting a
  70. ^056, an ^059, or a ^060.  You may type any number between
  71. 1 and 32 when selecting from the ^003 or from
  72. the ^004.

  74. You will probably want to enter the ^021 to the nearest
  75. whole number, but you are not required to do so.

  77. The ^028 which you enter may have a decimal-point in it,
  78. but it cannot contain any commas.  Following are some
  79. examples, and whether or not they are all right.
